While I agree with your assessment, the whole point of Sword Dream is that there will be an official Sword Dream, as it is a community, not a brand or an artistic movement. It is meant to be the replacement of the OSR, as the OSR is full of too many problematic people. Sword Dream is not meant to be a unique artistic movement, but to replace and supplant the OSR.
I 100% get why you don't want there to be an "official" SWORDDREAM because it will almost inevitably turn into something exclusionary and awful if there were. But also, it would be convenient if there was a subreddit or discord group...
It's attracting the wrong ethos, the wrong kind of clientele. Bitter people, who want to promote ideas to the American public and fail, and sink into more alcoholism and drugs. I want to attract more positive, go ahead, take-charge people who can do the impossible. I want to attract America's Election-Winning community, and call it BALLOT DREAM: Bros Against Losers Lame-ifying Our Toys.

I wish you much luck. I tried to get something similar going with the "Honourable OSR" in the last days of G+. It fomented some debate and evaluation, but didn't really stick, but defintely proved their interest in becoming something better.
I'd go with NSR, or New School Renaissance. Tip of the hat to the OSR because the DIY aspect will most likely remain, but making a distinction that the thinking is forward looking with all the symbolism that goes with that. Just an idea I'm tossing out there.
Personally I don't think you need to dump OSR because you disagree with a handful of folks. My mom would call that throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
this is pathetic. how do you garbage people even get by day-to-day without assistance? lmao wow so problematic because swords are patriarchal phallic symbols lolololol
Damn straight.
ReplyDeleteWell articulated. I didn't know what to call my, like...OSR-adjacent oeuvre. This feels good.
ReplyDeleteA sword is a phallic symbol, and phallocracy is problematic.
ReplyDeleteRemember, if it's not a donut, its a phallic symbol...

DeleteSo Sword Dream is just a form of gatekeep OSR?
ReplyDeleteAll sounds unnecessary and a bit pretentious to me.

ReplyDelete"The OSR functioned as a loose web..."
ReplyDeleteSo you've decided that OSR is past tense, no longer a thing?
Also: somewhat ironically, a sword is a thoroughly phallic symbol.

ReplyDeleteFor those interested, I made a thing:

I'm calling it "unofficial by design". It's just a place for people to talk about SWORDDREAM and other stuff, nothing more.

DeleteFWIW, this is the Internet, where Americans make up (believe it or not) only a small fraction of the population.
